MetaTrader is a popular Forex trading platform that also supports trading in options and futures. It was launched in 2002 by MetaQuotes. The most widely used version is MetaTrader 4 (MT4), although the latest version is MetaTrader 5 (MT5). MetaTrader offers advanced charting capabilities and a wide range of built-in indicators. It also supports multiple-account management. This trading software is available for free.

 

MetaTrader and Forex Brokers

Most ECN and STP Forex brokers today support both MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5. Each Forex broker provides its own branded version of MetaTrader, but the underlying back-end structure remains the same. This makes it easy to use any version of MetaTrader under consistent rules and trading conditions.

Both manual and automated trading are possible with MT4. The MetaTrader platform is well known for its ability to support Forex robots and Expert Advisors.
